SLOW WINE 2015

All wines are tied together by a coherent style of elegance and fullness of taste. Excellent this year is Bardolino Chiaretto Classico 2013 intense aromas of small fruits and with attractive freshness and drinkability.Very good also is the traditional Bardolino Classico 2013, fine and balanced. The Bardolino Classico Tacchetto 2013 is more austere and spicy. Still needing time but already with good complexity of taste, powerful and juicy is the Amarone Valpolicella Classico of Villa Rizzardi 2010.We also recommend the tasty and balanced Valpolicella Classico Superiore Ripasso Pojega 2012 and the modern style, soft and pleasant Soave Classico Costeggiola 2013.

Prosecco Extra Dry NV
.. This comes from the aristocratic Guerrieri Rizzardi, perhaps best known for their red wines, but producing here a very refined and subtle Prosecco, with typical notes of icing sugar sprinkled over preserved lemon, and a forward, fruity style. Note that it’s an ‘Extra Dry’ which, perversely enough means it is a little sweeter than a normal ‘Brut’ style sparkling wine. It’s not sweet, but the extra ounce of sugar gives it a flattering smoothness and makes it a great aperitif choice too. (15th Dec. 2014)

Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

Costeggiola Soave Classico 201387 points

“The 2013 Soave Classico Costeggiola (70% Garganega and 30% Chardonnay) is a single-vineyard expression. Fruit is sourced from 45-year-old vines and the wine imparts fresh tones of citrus, peach and garden herb.” (Monica Larner Dec ‘14)

Calcarole Amarone Classico 200892+ points

The 2008 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Calcarole is a beautiful wine with loads of balsamic intensity that comes off as rosemary oil, hummus, eucalyptus and dried ginger. The wine shows a strong, masculine side with tight tannins and structure next to a feminine side that is evident in its pretty berry flavors..” (Monica Larner Oct’13)

Recioto di Soave Classico 200892 points

The beautiful 2008 Recioto di Soave Classico Costeggiola opens with bright, golden luminosity and fragrant tones of honey, marzipan and creamy lemon curd. This Garganega-based dessert wine made from air-dried grapes would pair with custards, sweet ricotta cheese or panna cotta. ..” (Monica Larner Oct’13)

Villa Rizzardi Amarone Classico 200890 points

The 2008 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Villa Rizzardi is a bold and darkly concentrated wine with loads of brown sugar, barbecue spice, tar, licorice and blackberry preserves. The sweet and chewy mouthfeel is almost over the top but will appeal to die-hard Amarone enthusiasts…” (Monica Larner Oct’13)
